Assistant Production Manager - Phone Assembly

We are looking for an Assistant Production Manager to join our Phone Line Assembly group, as we scale up and drive digital and financial inclusion across our markets.
Job Purpose
As an Assistant Production Manager, you will oversee the entire production process to ensure efficiency, quality, and timely delivery of products.
Key Responsibilities
• Responsible for Shift resourcing.
• Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the production floor, including scheduling, staffing, and workflow management.
• Monitor production processes and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Coordinate with Materials Handling Teams to ensure the availability of raw materials and components for production.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
• Responsible for ensuring initiatives towards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are fully adhered to on the production floor.
• Train, mentor, and develop production staff to enhance their skills, knowledge, and performance.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any issues or concerns within the production team.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to resolve technical issues, improve product quality, and optimize production processes.
• Implement Kaizen principles and continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and streamline operations.
• Prepare regular reports on production performance, including key metrics such as production output, yield, and efficiency.
• Monitor production processes and equipment performance to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
This is an on-site role reporting to the Head of Manufacturing.
Skills and Competencies
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
• Proven experience in a production management role within the electronics manufacturing industry, with a strong understanding of the Phone Assembly process and technology.
• Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve production goals.
• Solid knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and inventory management principles and practices.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• Computer proficiency in aided manufacturing (CAM) software, ERP systems, and other production management tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Knowledge of quality management systems, lean manufacturing principles, and safety regulations.
• Good knowledge of KAIZEN principles.
