We are looking for a Senior Lead Quality to join our Phone Line Assembly group, as we scale up and drive digital and financial inclusion across our markets.

Job Purpose

The Senior Lead Quality is responsible for overseeing the quality control processes within the phone assembly plant, ensuring that all products meet the company's quality standards before reaching customers. This role includes Integrated Management Systems (IMS) to maintain high standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

The Senior Lead Quality supervises a team of Quality Control Associates and Quality Control Supervisors, ensuring effective inspections, tests, and audits, while driving continuous improvement initiatives to achieve overall quality objectives. This position is crucial in maintaining product excellence, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting the Senior Quality Manager in achieving overall quality objectives.

Key Job Functions

1. Team Leadership and Supervision:

• Lead and supervise a team of Quality Control Associates and Quality Control Supervisors, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.

• Ensure that the team is well-trained and equipped to carry out quality inspections and audits effectively.

2. Quality Control Management:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the quality control team, ensuring that all products are inspected and tested according to company standards.

• Develop and implement quality control procedures and protocols in collaboration with the Senior Quality Manager.

• Monitor and evaluate the performance of quality control processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.

3. Integrated Management System (IMS):

• Support the development and implementation of the Integrated Management System (IMS) that combines quality, environmental, and safety management systems.

• Spearheads IMS audits, identifies risks, and ensures corrective actions are taken to mitigate impact.

• Ensure that IMS processes are consistently applied across the plant and are aligned with company objectives.

• Monitor the effectiveness of the IMS and recommend improvements to enhance system integration and performance.

• Promote IMS awareness and best practices among the quality control team and other departments.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant ISO standards by implementing and maintaining certification requirements.

• Collaborate with external auditors and cross-functional stakeholders during certification audits and work on closing any non-conformities.

• Maintain up-to-date documentation for ISO certification processes, ensuring that all records are accurate and accessible.

4. Compliance and Standards:

• Ensure that all quality control activities comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

• Ensure regular audits of quality control processes are carried out to ensure adherence to established standards.

• Prepare and maintain documentation related to quality control activities, including inspection reports, audit findings, and corrective actions.

5. Continuous Improvement:

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing quality control data, identifying trends, and recommending improvements to processes and procedures.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and supply chain, to address quality issues and implement solutions.

• Participate in root cause analysis of defects and non-conformances, leading efforts to eliminate recurring issues.

6. Reporting and Communication:

• Compile and present regular reports on quality control metrics, including defect rates, inspection results, and corrective actions, to the Head of Manufacturing and other stakeholders.

• Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, ensuring that quality standards and expectations are understood and met, and provide feedback and insights to production teams to improve the overall product quality.

7. Training and Development:

• Conduct training sessions for Quality Control Associates and Supervisors to enhance their skills and keep them updated on new quality control techniques and tools.

• Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the quality control department.

This is an on-site role at the warehouse reporting to the Head of Manufacturing.

Expertise

1. Education

Bachelor's degree in quality management, Applied Sciences, Engineering, Technology, or a related field.

2. Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance, preferably within a phone assembly or electronics manufacturing environment.

• Prior experience in a supervisory or team leadership role is highly desirable.

3. Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of quality control methodologies, ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001), and inspection techniques.

• Proficient in the use of quality tools such as control charts, Pareto analysis, fishbone diagrams, and FMEA.

• Familiarity with MES systems and traceability protocols in assembly processes.

4. Analytical & Data Skills

• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

• Skilled in data entry, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation using Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, or similar tools to drive data-based decision-making.

5. Leadership & Communication

• Proven ability to lead and develop quality teams, manage workflows, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey quality standards, procedures, and improvement plans across multiple teams.

6. Other Requirements

• Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced manufacturing environment.

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform hands-on inspections.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
