Sales Training Lead — M-KOPA Johannesburg

Think about the best training session you've ever delivered — or been part of. The moment the room shifted. When a concept clicked for someone who'd been struggling with it, or a new agent suddenly understood not just what to do, but why it works. That feeling doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone prepared properly, read the room, adapted on the fly, and genuinely cared whether people left better than they arrived.

If that's how you approach training, M-KOPA wants to meet you.

We're hiring a Sales Training Lead based in Johannesburg to deliver training across multiple sites in Gauteng — equipping new and existing sales agents and cluster leaders with the product knowledge, sales techniques, and confidence they need to perform.

What M-KOPA is building

M-KOPA has served more than 7 million customers across Africa, unlocking over $2 billion in credit. 55% of the people we reach are accessing formal financial services for the very first time. 86% report a meaningful improvement in their quality of life. We're growing toward 10 million customers, and South Africa — including the Gauteng — is a key part of that growth story.

Every agent we put in the field represents M-KOPA to a customer who may be making one of the most significant financial decisions of their life. The quality of that agent's training directly shapes the quality of that interaction. This role is where that standard gets set.

What the work actually looks like

You'll be on the ground — travelling across Gauteng sites to deliver training sessions for new recruits and existing agents alike, as well as cluster leaders who need to coach their own teams effectively. Your sessions will cover M-KOPA's sales methodology, product knowledge, and the practical techniques that turn a capable agent into a confident one. You'll use a range of delivery approaches — including role-play scenarios and digital learning tools — because you know that different people learn differently, and that the method matters as much as the content.

Behind the facilitation, there's a rigorous administrative layer. You'll maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and outcomes — tracking what's working and what isn't, and reporting on training effectiveness with the honesty that makes improvement possible. You'll prepare training materials, manuals, and presentations in collaboration with the wider sales training team, and manage the scheduling and logistics that keep multi-site delivery running smoothly.

Collaboration is central to this role. You'll work closely with Sales Administrators and Regional Sales Managers across Gauteng to identify where training gaps are opening up — whether because of new product launches, shifting sales strategies, or performance data that points to a specific need. You'll feed those insights back to the team, recommend content improvements, and support the development of new training initiatives as M-KOPA's sales operation continues to evolve.

What makes you ready for this

  • Demonstrable experience in sales training, sales support, or a facilitation role — with a track record of delivering engaging, effective training sessions to frontline sales teams and the administrative discipline to maintain accurate records and tracking

  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to adapt delivery style across different learning contexts — including new recruit onboarding, product knowledge sessions, and practical sales technique coaching using role-play and digital tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the organisational capability to manage multi-site training schedules, coordinate logistics, and prepare training materials to a consistent standard — alongside the mobility and flexibility to travel regularly across Gauteng training sites

A candid note on what this role requires

Multi-site training delivery is not a desk job. You'll be travelling regularly, facilitating back-to-back sessions, and switching context between new recruits who need hand-holding and experienced agents who need stretching. The administrative requirements don't pause when the facilitation is busy — records need to stay current, reports need to go out on time, and feedback needs to be constructive even when you've had a long week. If you're energised by variety, thrive in front of a room, and take personal ownership of whether the people you train actually improve — this will suit you well.

Why this role matters

A well-trained agent doesn't just perform better. They onboard customers more ethically, screen prospects more carefully, and represent M-KOPA in a way that builds the kind of trust that keeps a customer for life. At M-KOPA, every activation is a credit decision — and the quality of our training is one of the most direct ways we protect our customers and our business at the same time.

When 86% of M-KOPA's customers say their quality of life has improved, that outcome starts with an agent who knew what they were doing. And that agent's knowledge starts with someone like you.

If you're passionate about developing people, committed to delivering training that actually changes behaviour, and ready to do that at the scale of one of Africa's fastest-growing fintechs — this is worth your attention.
